Proceptual Interaction: Human Perception of Goal-oriented Processes

Overview

The Goal

The Goal

The goal of the Proceptual Interaction project is to develop novel ways of Perceiving our ways of Programming computers. We are always programming our computers in one way or another. Maybe by telling it to send an email or to show us the contents of a webpage on the Internet. Our proception in this interaction is limited by our currently very limited means of viewing the progress toward our goals. Sometimes there is a progress bar that informs us of our progress toward especially distant goals. We are excited by the potential for the application of Causal Reflection to helping us to develop more powerful Proceptual tools for everyday computer users. Allowing programmers to focus on the specific tasks that they are trying to automate and by building proceptual capabilities into the Operating System itself will allow a generally more robust and natural Human Computer Interaction by allowing end users to more easily recognize conflicts in their own goals and plans.
